Construction is underway on the new Build & Design Centre at Brisbane Airport’s Skygate precinct, a two-level facility for Brisbane Airport Corporation that will bring more than 70 showrooms together under one roof.
Spanning more than 4,000m² across two levels of approximately 2,035m² each, the facility will house showrooms, ancillary office accommodation and purpose-built spaces for design seminars and industry workshops. The architecture centres on a sculptural translucent screening band that wraps the upper level, floating above full-height glazing at the entry and curving around the building’s most prominent corners. Patterned precast panels, batten screening, polished concrete floors and exposed structure feature throughout.
Tomkins Director, Mike Tomkins, said the project has a natural connection to the construction industry.
“The Build & Design Centre will bring the products, suppliers and expertise behind every build and renovation together in one location, and our team works with many of those businesses every day. Commencing works on a building designed to serve our industry, in a precinct we know well, is a rewarding way to open 2026.”
The development marks a major expansion for The Build & Design Centre, which is relocating from South Brisbane to the airport precinct, and continues Tomkins’ long-standing relationship with Brisbane Airport Corporation. Construction will be coordinated around the active surrounding the site, with the Centre expected to open in early 2027.
