Kylie McKinlay and Laynee Stadach have been named finalists at the 2024 NAWIC Queensland Awards, recognising excellence in safety and the next generation of women in construction.

One finalist would be worth celebrating. Two, in the same year and at different career stages, says something about the depth of talent in the business.

Kylie McKinlay has been named a finalist in the Health & Safety and/or Environment category, recognition of her work embedding safe practice across the company’s projects. Laynee Stadach is a finalist in the McIllwain Apprentice/Trainee/Student of the Year category, acknowledging her development through the Cadet Programme.

The National Association of Women in Construction Queensland Awards celebrate the achievements of women across the state’s construction industry, from students and apprentices through to senior leaders, and finalist selection alone places nominees among the industry’s standouts for the year.

For Laynee, the nomination caps a strong year. She recently hosted the quarterly cadet site trip at the beachfront Buddina project, guiding her peers through the challenges encountered during the build, exactly the kind of leadership the McIllwain category exists to recognise.

Recognition like this also reflects a wider commitment. The business maintains strong female representation at every level, from the Executive Leadership Team to the cadet intake, and supporting women to build visible, celebrated careers in construction is part of how that participation keeps growing.

Both finalists will find out the results at the awards night on 18 October, and the whole team looks forward to celebrating with them there. Congratulations, Kylie and Laynee.
