Build & Design Centre

Tomkins was engaged by Brisbane Airport Corporation through an Early Contractor Involvement planning phase, working with the client team and consultants to shape the design, buildability and cost plan before delivery under a two-stage Major Works Contract. The construction programme, following the design lead-in, required key trades including piling, earthworks, concrete supply, structural steel and hydraulic services to be secured early to protect the programme and manage price escalation.

The architecture has designed to create a true design centre visitor experience. A sculptural translucent screening band wraps the upper level, floating above full-height glazing at the entry and curving around the building’s most prominent corners. Feature elements include patterned precast panels, batten screening, feature lighting, polished concrete floors and exposed structure throughout.

Inside, more than 70 showrooms will be arranged across two levels of approximately 2,035m² each, supported by ancillary office accommodation and purpose-built spaces for design seminars and industry workshops. Customer parking at the rear of the site connects to the showroom entrance via a pathway through feature landscaping.

Located off The Boulevard adjacent to DFO Brisbane, the site sits within Brisbane Airport Corporation’s established Skygate retail precinct, with construction coordinated around an active retail environment. The Centre is expected to open in 2027.
