PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

Tomkins delivered the Australia Post Parcel Facility at Brisbane Airport — the largest industrial facility ever constructed on airport land within the Brisbane Airport Corporation precinct. Built for Brisbane Airport Corporation under a Design and Construct contract, the 33,881m² facility provides Australia Post and its StarTrack subsidiary with a purpose-built, automated parcel processing hub that directly supports their growing eCommerce and logistics network across South East Queensland.

The development includes a 31,547m² automated parcel facility, 1,995m² of premium office space, 340 on-site car parking bays and a new estate road. Direct airside connectivity integrates the facility with Brisbane Airport’s freight network, while dedicated zones for Australian Border Force and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry support international freight operations.

Achieved Practical Completion in 2025, with Australia Post able to commence operations approximately two months ahead of their required operational timeframe.

The Australia Post Parcel Facility at Brisbane Airport is the largest industrial building ever delivered on airport land within the BAC precinct. Designed and constructed by Tomkins under a Design and Construct contract with Brisbane Airport Corporation, the 33,881m² development provides Australia Post with a purpose-built automated parcel processing hub — including a 31,547m² sorting floor, 1,995m² of office accommodation, 340 car parking bays and a new estate road.

The facility features direct airside connectivity to Brisbane Airport’s freight network, with dedicated Zone 2 and Zone 3 aviation security areas supporting Australian Border Force and DAFF international freight operations.

Construction within an active airport environment required strict compliance with Obstacle Limitation Surface (OLS) height restrictions, driving innovative solutions throughout — including a 20-metre cantilevered awning using tapered portal frame rafters, roof sheeting skated into position rather than crane-lifted, and High Modulus Controlled Stiffness Columns (CSC) for ground remediation in place of traditional deep piling.

Sustainability initiatives include a 450kW solar system with BESS battery storage, low carbon concrete and active construction waste recycling. The project is targeting a 5-Star Green Star Design & As Built rating.

Delivered within budget and achieving Practical Completion in July 2025 — enabling Australia Post to commence operations approximately two months ahead of schedule.
