The 2024 Lunch and Learn series has paired cadets with executives and industry specialists across the year, from the secrets of estimating to Green Star delivery and pre-construction planning.
A cadetship teaches plenty on site. The Lunch and Learn series exists for everything the site cannot teach.
The 2024 series kicked off in February, with members of the executive team and the cadet cohort coming together for the first educational session of the year. The gathering also welcomed three new cadets to the programme.
The sessions are an integral part of the Cadet Programme, giving cadets the chance to consolidate their site experience and studies by hearing from the company’s industry experts in their specialist areas. Peer learning is built into the format, with one cadet presenting a topic of particular interest to the rest of the group at each session. February’s honours went to Lucas, who shared The Secrets of Estimating with his peers under the theme of quality management and estimating.
The most recent session brought cadets together from various building sites for another strong pairing of perspectives. Lewis shared his experience on the Green Star project at Brisbane Airport, highlighting the positive impact of sustainable practices on the built environment and the wider community, while Business Relationship Manager Rhod offered insights into the pre-construction process and the behind-the-scenes work that sets projects up for success.
The learning extends beyond the lunch room. Earlier in the year, the commercial team toured the latest Brisbane Airport industrial project, building rapport between contract administrators, cadets and site teams and several cadets who recently graduated from their university studies have progressed into new roles within the commercial team.
The programme is designed to set up a generation of leaders in the construction industry, and its mentors happily invest their time in exactly that.
