Tomkins has recently completed a refurbishment project for ‘The Brook Early Education and Care’ centre in Kedron.

This project saw dilapidated and outdated buildings renewed into a 4,694m2 high-quality child care centre, which will accommodate 220 children and 20+ staff in modern, engaging, safe and practical learning and activity areas.

The environment our team has built at The Brook allows children to connect to their environment and let their imaginations run wild. There are numerous play areas each with different play styles and activities, modern equipment, quality amenities, and plenty of outdoor spaces.

Our scope of work included asbestos removal, partial demolitions, strip-outs and refurbishment of the existing structures (which included the old Kedron JB HiFi structure and a pre-war building), concrete-cutting, relocation and raising of an existing house onto a newly subdivided lot, underground services reticulation and upgrade works, extensive and detailed civil and external landscape works, and internal and external refurbishment of existing JB HiFi building for a new mezzanine floor.

Landscaping for this development boasts incorporation of climbing structures, mud kitchens, play equipment, shade sails, timber bridges, sandpits, creeks, toy storage units, artificial grass, digging patches, dry creek beds, timber decks, cubbies etc all enclosed by acoustic fencing.

The entry structure has intrinsic detail inclusive of timber cladding, glazing and sculpted sheet metal to create the finished product. Other features of this exciting development include trellis work, indoor child’s slide from Level 1 to ground, acoustically glazed, automated clerestory windows to the raised roof, circular feature windows, suspended plants and complete CCTV install.
